Pat Mesiti – Soaring Higher Pat Mesiti International Motivational Speaker gives you principles to soar higher!
No matter how much you have learned from the past, it will never tell you all you need to know for the present Author Leroy Eims said, 'A leader is one who sees more than others see, who sees further than others see, and he sees before others do.’ All of us have experiences in our lives that we have learned from. You and I, as we grow as people, as leaders and business people, must see more, see further than others, and see before others. But for many of us there are times in life when we really don't know what to do when things happen to us. I heard a friend deliver a funny message he titled 'What to do when you don't know what to do'. So what exactly do we do during those times in our lives when we don't know what to do? Author John Maxwell says that we have to learn to navigate, to take life one step at a time. Jack Welch, former Chairman and CEO of General Electric, said that 'a good leader remains focused'. Controlling your direction is better than being controlled by it. For many of you, something has just happened to you and you are not sure how to deal with it. Determine that you are going to control the direction, that you are going to go forward. Someone once said, 'I don't care which way we go in life as long as we go forward'. Don't allow present circumstances to hinder progress in your life. Remember to live life one day at a time. Don’t lock your focus only on a long-term view. Enjoy each moment, including the moment you've got right now. I've come to learn that I was so focused on the future that I forgot to enjoy my present: time with my kids, time with myself, time to do nothing but enjoy the moment. In my frantic pace, travelling 150,000 miles a year on one airline alone, running organisations, turning organisations from bankruptcy into profit, I forgot to smell the roses and enjoy the present, to sit down and sip a coffee slowly rather than gulp it down in a hurry. I've always enjoyed the company of my close friends and my children. But when it seemed I could have lost them all, I quickly realised how important those relationships were and how much I valued them. Someone once said that we never know what we've got until it's gone. I pray that will not be the case with us any more, but that we learn to enjoy our present and learn to enjoy what we have. Challenge One of the things you can learn from your past is to enjoy your present. Be prepared to take time out to think through your present circumstances. Be pro-active in your progress rather than reactive. Think through the processes and answers and results in a systematic way. Take time to talk to people about aspects of your life. Enjoy the company of those who actually matter to you.
